Regulations for Refugium Upernavik
§1, cf. 1: The purpose of Retreat Upernavik is to give an artist, or a small group of artists, the possibility of working comfortably with his her or their own art or arts.
cf. 2: Through Retreat Upernavik Upernavik Museum wishes to develop an artistic atmosphere that takes its basis in the individual artist and his or her works of art.
cf. 3: Since Upernavik Museum is a local museum, it is endeavoured to create an artistic atmosphere that takes its inspiration in the surrounding culture and nature.
cf. 4: With the Greenlandic culture and nature as source of inspiration, it is desired that an international art atmosphere will rise.
§2, cf. 1: Retreat Upernavik is housed in “the Old Bakery” B-11.
cf. 2: The building B-11 belongs to Upernavik Museum.
cf. 3: The museum is responsible for the technical installations in the building B-11.
§3, cf. 1: Written application to Retreat Upernavik, in Greenlandic Danish or English, should be mailed to:

cf. 2: The application ought to contain information about style and branch of art and a personal description.
cf. 3: There is no deadline for applications which are currently considered the applications.
cf. 4: It is the Museum Board that selects the artists, after recommendation from the Curator.
cf. 5: The nationality of prospective applicants must not be of any influence in the election of artists.
§4, cf. 1: Expenses for house rent, removal of refuse, water, light and heating is being paid by Upernavik Museum.
cf. 2: Travelling expenses, in relation to the journey to and from Upernavik, is to be paid by the artist.
cf. 3: Some kind of open workshop should be arranged in agreement with the Curator, in order to give the local population an idea of the artists working methods.
cf. 4: At the latest six months after the artist’s departure from Upernavik, he or she has to deliver a work made in connection to the stay in Retreat Upernavik to Upernavik Museum.
cf. 5: In particular cases, like in the case of the artist being a writer or a poet, the Museum Board can exempt from §4 cf. 4.
As it appears from the regulations, there is no chance of any economic support for travelling expenses, material expenses etc. Therefore it is recommended that prospective applicants apply for support from relevant foundations.
Applications should be mailed to Upernavik Museum, and it is possible to contact the Museum for further information.
