Collections

The museum main collection consists of the hundreds of historical items that Andreas Lund-Drosvad (Suko) on its own initiative overall to themselves in the long period he stayed here in the district. In addition to his collection began municipality also to purchase unique items from the old hunting culture.

Hunting tools

Upernavik Museum has collections Greenlandic old hunting tools as well as umiak, kayak and dogsled.

Gitz-Johansen

Danish artist with special interest for Greenland and the northern Scandinavia.

Made several journeys to Greenland in the period from 1930 to 1950.

The pieces presented here are all made under visits to either Upernavik or Kangersuatsiaq (Settlement). 

Otto Thomassen

Otto Thomassen (1895-1971) began to create carvings in the 1930's. The symbolic universe of Thomassen is fabulous. In his carvings naturalistic scenes from the daily life as well as supernatural beings are seen. In some of the supernatural beings several elements from the animal world is to be seen.

The carvings at the museum are made by Otto Thomassen and his three sons: Kornelius, Kasper and Rasmus Thomassen
